Sharing tips that helped me how to avoid procrastinating while welcoming productivity during the day.

Staying out of the procrastination loophole is hard if you don’t know how to begin doing so in the first place. I’ve been learning how to deal with my triggers of procrastination and decided to share what has helped me in the past.

I know a lot of you are struggling to stay productive during the day, so I want to help you all out with tips that worked for me and hopefully work for you too. Whether you’re a creative or a student, this article is written for anyone struggling with being productive.

1. Establish a Daily Routine

A daily routine will help you get through the day while making the most of it. I recommend having a routine that works for you, cause during the day when you’re stuck on what to do next, your routine is there to help you move forward. It’s important to note that you can’t take someone else daily routine and implement it into your lifestyle while expecting it to function properly. You need to spend some time observing yourself and taking notes on what mood you are in at different times of the day. While creating your Daily Routine, remember it’s not necessarily what it consists of as long as it exists and works for you.

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”
— Annie Dillard

2. Disconnect from The Outside World

There are so many distractions in this world and the majority of them are coming from our smart devices. My advice is to abstain from reading the news early in the morning, cause for me, it just changes my mood completely from being motivated straight down to being agitated. When you’re ready to accomplish some work, put your phone on Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode, whatever suits you, and be free from any distractions.

I find that instead of reading the news or jumping straight to social media in the morning; taking 5–10 minutes to do some mindfulness activity can boost your creativity while leaving you feeling calmer and energized. The activities I perform are Journaling or Listening to Audio Mediation.

“The phone gives us a lot, but it takes away three key elements of discovery: loneliness, uncertainty, and boredom. Those have always been where creative ideas come from.”
— Lynda Barry

3. Don’t be Too Serious

Sometimes being extra serious with a project can demotivate you from accomplishing anything. When focused more on the results, your body instantly becomes burnt out, and you’re suddenly left with no energy to complete a project or even a task. When your project isn’t fun to do anymore, it’s natural for you to feel the urge to procrastinate. Me, I tried getting some new tools and materials which help to make the project exciting for me once again.

“You must practice being stupid, dumb, unthinking, empty. Then you will be able to DO . . . Try to do some BAD work — the worst you can think of and see what happens but mainly relax and let everything go to hell — you are not responsible for the world — you are only responsible for your work — so DO IT.”
— Sol LeWitt to Eva Hesse

Final Thought

These are the 3 main tips that help me a lot when it comes to staying away from that Procrastination loophole. The parenting tip from this article is: “Establishing a Routine”. Once you have a routine, everything else will fall into place. If you have little time, a routine helps with making that time count. Similarly, the same goes for when you have all the time in the world cause having a routine, make sure you don’t waste it.

Before I end, I want to share one of my favorite quotes that always gives me that boost of creativity and motivation at the beginning of a brand-new day.

“Every day is a new deal. Keep workin’ and maybe sump’n’ll turn up.”
— Harvey Pekar
